College Student Hack: How to Make Your Dorm Feel Like Home
One of my biggest concerns when moving to a dorm is that I would feel like I was staying in a hotel on a long, tiresome vacation. I don’t know about you, but after a few days in a hotel I start feeling off routine and gross. I was determined to make sure that my dorm felt like a home.
Short disclaimer here: I have a roommate who matches my aesthetic, so our dorm is always very neat and decorated nicely. I know that few people are so lucky, but at least these tips could apply to your side of the room.

1. Buy a rug
A rug is the perfect thing to tie a room together and make it feel cozy. I would recommend a cheap rug because it is bound to get dirty/spilled on. Even so, a rug always makes a room feel more complete.
2. The power of plants
Because I only have one window, it is easy for my room to start to feel claustrophobic. One way that I found keeps my space fresher is by adding plants. I currently have three plants that are very easy to take care of in my room, and they make my space feel more like a home.
Plants are also a great mood booster and give you something to look after. As long as you have plants, you will always have a reason to get out of bed.

3. Bring something familiar
When I moved into a dorm, I wanted to make it feel as familiar to me as possible. To do this, I bought the same comforter I have on my bed at home for my dorm. Even though I have a queen bed at home, I also bought a queen sized comforter for my dorm just to have it be extra cozy.
You could bring something such as your favorite poster or blanket as well. Anything to remind you of your room at home makes the transition so much easier.
Moving from a familiar home to a dorm room will always be difficult, but if you make your space as comfortable for yourself as you can, you will enjoy your time in the dorms so much more.
