Entering Your Rich Era: Realistic Ways to Save Money

We all want to save money, right? But I am also just a girl, and I love to shop. Here are a few strategies that I take to keep myself happy and my bank account happier.

1. Buy things as treats

If you compulsively purchase things that you believe you NEED in the moment, you are not alone. Instead of purchasing somewhat mindlessly, try to reward yourself with a treat after you achieve one of your goals. Once you know of something that you want, associate it with a goal, and use it as motivation to work hard towards that goal. This not only gives you time to decide if you really want to purchase this thing, but it will also make the object mean so much more to you once you purchase it. It is important to remember that you deserve whatever you are buying because you worked hard for it, rather than feeling guilt for your purchases.

2. Go through your closet

If you are like me (as I assume many of you are), you love to shop. After a while, your closet just feels stale, right? Instead of running to your favorite clothing store, try actually going through the clothes you already own. I often find that I have forgotten about clothing items, and then it feels like I have a brand new wardrobe. If you find clothes that you don’t like anymore, try selling them. Then you can justify using the that money to give your wardrobe a refresh.

3. Realize what is adding up

Small things add up. It might seem like your seven dollar coffee every other day barely makes a dent in your bank account, but if you buy three coffees a week, that adds up to around eighty dollars a month, just on coffee. But wait! Don’t panic, I am in no way asking you to give up coffee. Just maybe buy one coffee per week and make the rest at home. You will save money without even realizing it!

Saving money can be stressful, but if you go one strategy at a time, it can almost be fun.

Okay maybe not fun, but at least a rewarding experience. Now go out there and be the financial queen (or king) you are!
